Holocaust Memorial Day 2011

2011’s Holocaust Memorial commemoration took place on Sunday, 30 January 2011.

The keynote address was given by the former Minister for Equality, Integration and Human Rights, Mary White, TD. Paul Gallagher, former Attorney General, Geraldine Kennedy, former Editor of the Irish Times and Ruairi Quinn, former Chairperson of HETI all gave readings at this commemoration.

The National Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration takes place on the Sunday nearest to the 27 January every year. It is attended by people from all walks of Irish life. It cherishes the memory of those who perished, honours the survivors and teaches the lessons of the Holocaust to future generations. Candles are lit for the six million Jews who perished as well as all of the other victim groups. The ceremony takes 80 minutes and this is a 15 minute clip.
